Overview
Automotive Services Technology II focuses on steering and suspension, engine repair and performance, and heating and air conditioning. Scientific principles taught and reinforced in this course include the study of viscosity, friction, thermal expansion, and compound solutions. The lab operates as an automotive service department, and students gain experience completing work orders and communicating with customers. This program is NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) certified at the vehicle maintenance and light repair level.
When you finish
Students who earn the Ivy Tech Certificate in Maintenance and Light Repair are eligible to participate in Ivy Tech Richmond’s graduation ceremony. Students can also go on to Ivy Tech to earn a Technical Certificate in Automotive Service Technology or an Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology. Other options are to enter apprenticeships, join the military, and/or continue their education and training on the job and in college.

Student Evaluation
After the completion of two years in the program, students are evaluated on technical and essential skills. The Technical Skills Evaluation documents the Automotive Technology skills learned. The Essential Skills Evaluation documents the workplace skills all WCC students learn. The documents were developed by WCC, in cooperation with business partners and industry advisory committees, and are updated each year.
